TfL Ref: 3506-2425
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30 January 2025 asking for information about Elizabeth line delays and cancellations.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You specifically asked: Please can you tell me how many days in the last 12 months have there either been delays or cancellations on the Elizabeth Line between Paddington and Heathrow (Heathrow bound trains).
The most recent data from the Office of Road and Rail showed that the Elizabeth line was the second most punctual railway in the UK, with 81.3 per cent of trains arriving on time between July and September 2024.
The latest performance for the Elizabeth line for the period 8 December 2024 - 4 January 2025 is 92.8 per cent PPM with 98.4 per cent of Trips Operated.
(Note: PPM stands for Public Performance Measure and means that if a train reaches its destination within a set timeframe, the train is considered as "on time"). Therefore, it can be noted that in the period 8 December 2024 – 4 January 2025, 92.8 per cent of our trains arrived on time, with 98.4 per cent of overall planned trips operated.
The Elizabeth line has been performing well overall, with customer satisfaction remaining high. Nevertheless, we have been working hard with Network Rail and our partners to improve the reliability of the service further, which has resulted in improved performance since the start of 2024. Network Rail have put a plan in place to improve infrastructure in the Thames Valley area and we are supporting these plans to further enhance reliability on Elizabeth line services between Paddington and Reading / Heathrow. We have also carried out a significant train signalling software update with Alstom, who maintain the Elizabeth line trains, that has seen improved performance across the line and we are committed to working with all partners collaboratively to build on the recent improvements to the railway's overall reliability. Cancellation of trains is always our last resort.
