Gallows Corner flyover refurbishment

Gallows Corner flyover

What we're doing

The project will involve the complete renewal and replacement of all elements of the structure, except for the foundations.

This will enable us to remove speed and weight restrictions and improve journey time reliability for thousands of people travelling through the area.

We will install new pedestrian and cycle crossings to make it easier and safer to cross. And better road markings and resurfacing will improve journeys for people driving.

Why we're doing the work

The Gallows Corner Flyover offers a strategic link in the London Borough of Havering. It connects the A127 Southend Arterial Road to the A12 Eastern Avenue, bypassing the 5-arm roundabout at surface level.

The flyover was built in the 1970s. It is now in very poor condition and in urgent need of renewal.

For years, there have been speed and weight restrictions to allow the structure to continue to operate safely. But the flyover needs a major renewal project to avoid future disruption to the road network.

How we're doing it

We've worked with Havering Council and other key stakeholders such as National Highways to minimise disruption. Our goal is to keep the roundabout open as much as possible and to reduce the time the roundabout and flyover are completely closed.

We'll also be monitoring roads and bus routes during the work to ensure Londoners can continue to travel.

Our working hours are Monday to Saturday 08:00-18:00 and Sunday 08:00-16:00. There will be overnight closures needed throughout the work.

Bus services will continue throughout, as they will be able to pass through the site at all times. Bus stops will remain open or will be replaced with temporary bus stops.

Details of all closures are on the Gallows Corner travel advice page.
