What we are working on in Waltham Forest
Blackhorse Road station: urgent escalator repairs underway
Urgent escalator repairs at Blackhorse Road station are scheduled to continue for six months, with each escalator being refurbished in turn over a three-month period. The project is expected to be completed by July 2025.
During this time, only the up escalator will be operational. Passengers will need to use the stairs to travel down to the platforms. For those who may find it difficult, or are unable to use the stairs, we recommend considering alternative travel options where possible. A nearby station with full escalator and lift access is Tottenham Hale.

Step-free access coming to Leyton Tube station
Leyton Tube station is set for a significant upgrade to provide step-free access for the first time, with two lifts and an overbridge. This project to make 50% of Tube stations step-free, includes a new, larger ticket hall to reduce congestion. The work will start on 17 February 2025 and be completed by spring 2027. The station will remain open, with minimal weekend closures. The upgrade also supports the development of 7,300 new homes nearby and aims to enhance capacity, accessibility, and comfort for passengers.
Local Implementation Plan (LIP)
The LIP is produced by the London Borough of Waltham Forest and agreed with us. It sets out the details on transport infrastructure changes in a three-year period to support the Mayor's Transport Strategy.
